GamesTANE'S FAVORITE FLASH GAMES:

Here are a handful of my favorite free Flash Games that can be found around the web. Since I'm an avid gamer, I'm always on the lookout for the next great game... even if it's just a Flash Game! Below are what I consider, the best-of-the-best Flash Games available. Most of the games are RPG based, which means they are similar to your typical dungeon-crawl adventure games (i.e. like Final Fantasy, Zelda, WoW, etc.). And some of the games are my favorite mind-bending puzzles!

UPDATE -> 12/9/2009 - NEW! I've added a new category containing some of my favorite 8-Bit/Arcade style games. These are ones that utilize very basic, but creative, graphics and sound. And the games are very addictively fun.

I have listed each game with my opinion about the game, and it's general description. I hope you enjoy, and have some fun :)

DISCLAIMER: Some of these games have ads on them, and I have no control over what shows up. So please play at your own risk.

8-Bit / Arcade Games:

Canabalt (added 12/11/09)
Description: Outrun the demolition of your city with just one button!
Tane's Opinion: Yep that's it. Outrun destruction of your city with just one button... X or C. I have no idea if this game has an ending.... but the challenge is to see how FAR you can get! And the maps are randomized everytime, so you can't "memorize" your runs. Good luck! Simple and fun! And I give it A++ for great music (always a sucker for good video game music).

Meat Boy (added 12/11/09)
Description: -Meat boy is Hard! -You can skip levels by pressing esc and exiting to the level menu. -Unlock extra characters by collecting band aids. -You only need to beat 3 of every 5 levels to advance to the next series of levels.
Tane's Opinion: A simple but challenging platform game. They say the game is hard, and it is hard in and "old-school" style of things. When you die (one-hit), you have to start the level over. And getting some of the wall-jumping mechanics down are hard... but this is like a typical 8-bit game! You have to try, try, try again and you'll beat it. If you found this game too easy at the end, then try MoneySeize for a VERY hard challenge.

MoneySeize (added 12/11/09)
Description: -Meat boy is Hard! -You can skip levels by pressing esc and exiting to the level menu. -Unlock extra characters by collecting band aids. -You only need to beat 3 of every 5 levels to advance to the next series of levels.
Tane's Opinion: If you thought MeatBoy was hard, then this game will feel impossible. It's another game very similar to MeatBoy in that you have to get from the start to the finish by jumping, wall-kicking, and avoiding your death through every level. You could probably beat the game "normally" with some time invested... but to collect ALL the coins in the same.... virtually impossible. It's very hard. Only the hardcore with insane patience and persistence will pull it off. Great game nonetheless... one of the most challenging I've played in ages.

Push (added 12/11/09)
Description: A platformer with a twist! Push your way to victory over 75 levels then try the 1,000s of player created levels or make your own!
Tane's Opinion: Like the title says, a platformer with a twist! You have to use interesting mechanics to "push" your way through every level. Another fun game. It's more like a puzzle game + platformer game. I think you'll like it! (and no where near as hard as the previous two games Meatboy & MoneySeize)

Tower of Greed (added 12/11/09)
Description: Your goal is to escape the infamous Tower of Greed, while collecting as many valuable gems as possible. There is an exit on every 5th floor, so you may choose when and where you wish to exit with your wealth. Be careful, though, not to let your greed overwhelm you. After all, money and death don’t mix.
Tane's Opinion: Another addictive simple platformer. But this one has a very simple premise. Collect as much money as you can as you climb the tower! And don't fall off the tower (aka, don't go below the bottom of the screen). There are achievements (Trophies) to keep you playing until you collect them all. I haven't done this yet, but I have about 40% of them collected. Fun game!

Adventure/RPGs:

The Space Game
Description: The Space Game is set in the vast reaches of Canada, oh wait I mean SPACE, where there await fields of mineral-rich asteroids, ripe for exploitation. However it seems that the best asteroid belts lie within pirate territory, and they love nothing more than to crack open space miners’ skulls and feast on their space brains.
Tane's Opinion: I haven't actually tried this one yet, but it looks really in depth and fun. It's also been rated really high on multiple gaming sites. I finally game this game a try and ... WOW what a fun game. If you like RTS type games, this is right up your alley. And especially if you enjoy sci-fi space type games.

Sonny
Description: Zombies. You’ve shot them, stabbed them, sliced and diced them. Today I put you in the shoes of a Zombie. Fight for your life in this crazy and twisted world.
Tane's Opinion: Now THIS is a great game. It's an adventure/rpg to the core. Best way to explain it is a mix between Final Fantasy (the battle sequences), and World of Warcraft (gear collection). Plus is has a great story line that gets you interested! And... how cool is it to flip the tables, and play AS a Zombie instead of the guy hunting them down? Check it out, you will seriously get hooked.

Sonny 2
Description: By now you know what it's like to be a Zombie. To be hunted. To be hated. You fought to survive in a world that didn't make any sense. But now you're getting used to it. Your senses have sharpened. You finally begin to understand. Why be the prey... When you can be the predator?
Tane's Opinion: I haven't tried this sequel yet,  but if it's anything like the first one it will be excellent. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Monster's Den: Book of Dread
Description: An expanded and updated version of the popular dungeon crawl RPG. New classes, items, monsters, quests.. as well as an improved interface. Also, a shop!
Tane's Opinion: I just starting playing this game, and I have to say, I'm impressed. It's fairly simplistic, but wow, is it fun! It reminds me a little of the old "Dungeon Master" games, but from a top down view. Extremely easy to play, just make a party of 4, and venture into the dungeon! It has a similar loot system as seen in most games now-a-days (like WoW's), with Green drops, Blue drops, etc. So gearing up is kinda fun too - but not required.

Puzzles:

2 Rooms
Description: It fuses logic and speed into a unique puzzle experience. You have to go around each level using two pieces, which are separated by a wall in the middle. There are many different objects you can interact with that will affect your surroundings. There are 30 levels in total.
Tane's Opinion: I played a few levels of this, and immediately knew it would be a fun puzzle game. You have to coordinate, and think fast in this puzzle game to get to the exit. Very simple premise, but tricky to master. PLUS the music is awesome! I'm such a sucker for good music in a game :)

Scriball
Description: Can you guide the ball through 43 levels and defeat the boss? Includes a level editor!.
Tane's Opinion: Oh wow is this a creative game! I played this game through on the normal/easy mode. Basically you have to get a ball to the various goals as you progress.... but you have to draw the path it travels on. But your drawing is limited! You can't just draw the whole solution, you have to use a small line to get the ball where you want it! It's pretty easy for the first half of the game, then it gets much harder later on. And the boss fight at the end IS NOT EASY! It takes some good eye hand coordination and patience! It took me two lunch breaks to beat just the BOSS on the normal mode. I'm not going to even TRY playing it on the Bouncy Ball modes! That's just too much for me.. Hahah! Enjoy!

Super Stacker
Description: Stack the shapes without any falling off the screen to pass each stage.
Tane's Opinion: Reggit got me hooked on this game. He was better than I at it :) Basically, you're given a stage full of shapes, and you have to STACK them up without letting them tip or spill over the edge! Sometimes it's easy, and other times it's not. I did finally beat this game (with Reggit's help). Really simple and fun! Try it now!

Super Stacker 2
Description: Stack the shapes without any falling off the screen to pass each stage.
Tane's Opinion: And this is the same thing as the first one (Super Stacker), so not much to say here... it's just more stacking fun!

Fantastic Contraption
(NOT HOSTED ON THE LoJ WEBSITE - PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK)
Description: Build amazing contraptions to cross mind-bending levels in this brain-stretching puzzle game. Use simple urls to share your fantastic creations with your friends.
Tane's Opinion:
An extremely simple puzzle game. Get a ball/box/shape from point A to point B. The Catch? You have to build a "contraption" to get it there... yes that means you have to build a vehicle, or catapult, or wacky-moving-device - to get the prize into the goal. It has literally unlimited playability, and you will end up playing this game for hours.. upon hours.. just to beat the next level. I personally have beat every level (without cheating), but over like a month or so. And then you can just go back, and do it again, in a completely different way. So what kind of contraption have you made? Get creative! Post 'em!

Hexiom Connect
Description: Hexiom is back, with a new twist! Rearrange the tiles to light up all the color coded connections.
Tane's Opinion: A very unique puzzle game where you have to rearrange the existing tiles to light up the color coded connections. It's pretty easy to figure out. I think beside it being a cool puzzle game -- the music ROCKS! I'm a sucker for great sounding catchy music in a video game.

Zilch
Description: A dice game of great skill (and a little luck) where winning is all about knowing when to take the points and when to take a chance.
Tane's Opinion: This game is reminiscent of Yahtzee... a dice game comprised of mostly chance. But in this game you have to take more chances to get the combinations for scoring. Whats neat is that when you roll, it will automatically find the combinations for you... so you just click on the combos available. And, this game has an "achievement" system... there are like 120 awards to earn. I've only earned 36 so far... how many can you earn?

5 Differences
Description: Click on the 5 things you find different between the two images to advance to the next stage.
Tane's Opinion: Have you ever opened up the comics on Sunday's, and did the kids section where you have to find the differences between the two pictures? Of course you have. Well this is the exactly the same thing! You have to find the 5 differences between the two images (and yes it's hard, and yes they are really there). Can you beat the game and complete all the levels? I haven't been able to do it yet.

6 Differences
Description: Click on the 6 things you find different between the two images to advance to the next stage.
Tane's Opinion: Exactly the same game as the previous one, except you have to find the 6 differences -- and this one is based during the night time, and has music this time around :) You can press "H" during any level for ONE hint (for that level only).

Boomshine
Description: Boomshine is an addictive Flash casual game. Click the screen to start a chain reaction and try to explode as many dots as needed to pass a level. The game contains 12 levels ranging from the easy to the hard (25 tries on average to beat level 12).
Tane's Opinion: Zogros just referred me to this game... and he was right. It's simple, and extremely addictive. You have to set off a certain number of chain reactions to beat each level... you just sometimes have to watch... and wait... and watch... for the perfect moment to get the right chain reaction! And sometimes you miss it! But keep trying :)

Strategy/Defense:

GemCraft
Description: Havoc and corruption swarms through the land, and you are one of those few wizards who can put an end to it. Create and combine magic gems, put them into your towers and banish the monsters!
Tane's Opinion: This is take off from the very popular "Tower Defense" games (see the original Tower Defense in a post below). I personally love the Tower Defense games, so this was a natural for me to get into. But the thing that I thought was the coolest part about this, is the ability to combine Gems to make mixed-power towers! You have almost unlimited combinations in mixing the gems for their combined abilities.

Tower Defense 1.5
Description: New and improved version of the popular Tower Defense game. Buy towers, kill creeps, earn gold, buy more towers. You know the drill!
Tane's Opinion: This is the "original" Desktop Tower Defense game that spawned all the other ones. It has literally unlimited playability in the tower combinations, and the levels you can play. You won't beat this game anytime soon! If you have never tried another Tower Defense game, make sure you play this one first! It will give you a good foundation for all the other Tower Defense games. I played this game during many of my lunch breaks at work :)

Red
Description: Don't let the asteroids hit you.
Tane's Opinion: Almost like the old school game of asteroids, with a twist. First, you are sitting on a red planet... and you are stationary instead of movable. And you shoot  little white balls that only REPEL the asteroids, not destroy them. Just aim, and shoot... but you have limited ammo - so be careful! How long can you last? I've lasted 10 minutes on this game before dying.

Shooter:

Bubble Tanks 2
Description: You must travel through giant bubbles, destroying enemy tanks and taking their bubbles to fuel your growth. As you grow, you constantly evolve and get ever better weapons. In the end, you’ll have to face the ultimate adversary and defeat it to win the game.
Tane's Opinion: What a creative game. It's a simple shooter-space type game where you are.. yes.. a big bubble ship/tank thing. You fly around shooter other bubble enemies, and collecting their parts when they are destroyed -- which causes you to grow bigger. You also have an experience bar that allows you to level up and choose specialization paths (Heavy/Balance/Light/etc) that changes your size, speed, gun power, etc. There are Bosses as well as normal enemies to kill... I personally never beat the game, but I keep coming back to it to play over and over again! Just good replayability.

3000 AD
Description: Mech warriors, rejoice! A mech game with a retro style that features fantastic power and game-play!
Tane's Opinion: This is crafted after old-school top-down Mechwarrior style games. Although I never played them in the past, I got a bit of enjoyment out of this game! I only got to the 2nd or 3rd level... as it was a fairly hard game. But fun nonetheless. You can customize your Mech with weapons, engines, etc... so eventually you can have a pretty wooping Mech. How far have you gotten on this?

Misc:

Cosmic Crush
Description: Absorb smaller planets. Avoid larger ones. Watch out for gravity!
Tane's Opinion: Another REALLY creative game. SUPER simple and fun. While I don't agree with the implications of "creation by evolution" that is implied... the game is hilariously fun. All you do is start out as a small "rock", and then you absorb other rocks to get bigger... and become a planet, and then get bigger... and bigger.... but watch out -- bigger planets can suck you in! Gravity is a real downer! :)

Dolphin Olympics 2
Description: Score as many points as possible in 2 minutes by swimming and flipping your dolphin. Successful jumps build speed, allowing for bigger and better tricks!
Tane's Opinion: So I found this game over the summer at some point... what a hilarious game. I laughed so hard playing this game! I don't know what it is about making a Dolphin fly over the moon so funny... but it is :) So what's it all about? Basically, you're a Dolphin. And you have to see how high you can jump out of the water... and how many tricks you can do in the process (Tony Hawk Skateboard like tricks). So to win this game, you have to be a keyboard ninja, and able to make some fast actions when flying back in the water. My brother Reggit is really quite good at this game.... but even he hasn't reached the Restaurant at the End of the Universe... can you?
